Low-Tox Baby Medicines

As we head into cold & flu season, I thought I would put a list together of some of my favorite natural & cleaner baby medicines. As always, this list is comprised of products that have worked well in my personal experience but this is not medical advice.

Cold:

  • Hyland’s Tiny Cold Tablets (ages 6+ months) - there is a day & night time version, our daughter loves taking these small & tasteless tablets that melt in the mouth easily, and a homeopathic remedy that works well

  • Mommy’s Bliss Organic Baby Cough Syrup (ages 4+ months) - there is a day & night time version, no artificial flavors or colors, no honey (can be used under 1), and has added immune support ingredients

  • Cough B Gone (ages 1+ years) - a cough expectorant that can be used for the whole family, relieves sore throat, congestion, and loosens/removes mucus

  • Wellements Organic Baby Chest & Foot Rub (ages 3+ months) - a Vicks VapoRub alternative with no artificial ingredients, fragrances, or petroleum

  • Frida Baby NoseFrida Snot Sucker - we have used electric snot suckers, but always go back to this one where you use the power of your own lungs 🙃

Fever:

I believe that fevers are the body’s way of fighting off whatever sickness is going on, so I try to let them run their course most of the time. That being said, there are times where they cause too much discomfort or temperatures get too high, so it is good to have fever reducers on-hand.

  • Earthley Feel Better Fast (ages 6+ months) - an herbal tincture that supports fevers, the body’s immune response, and has anti-inflammatory properties

  • Genexa Pain & Fever (ages 2+) - this is still acetaminophen but a cleaner version than others

  • Infants' Dye-Free Ibuprofen (ages 6+ months) - nothing clean or natural about this (besides being a little better with the dye-free version), but we have used it when needed

Stomach bug:

  • Earthley Feel Better Fast (ages 6+ months) - an herbal tincture that soothes upset stomachs, helps with discomfort, and supports the body’s immune response

Immune Support:

  • Mary Ruth’s Elderberry Syrup (ages 1+ years) - easy to use dropper and it tastes good! Their “kids” version only shows serving size for 4+ years but the regular version shows 1-3 years as well.  They are the same formula, but I would go with the regular bottle so the whole family can use it.

  • Earthley Feel Better Fast (ages 6+ months) - an herbal tincture that supports the body’s immune response and has anti-inflammatory properties

Teething:

  • Hyland’s Oral Pain Relief Tablets (ages 0+ months) - with the same specs as the cold tablets above (day & night version dissolvable tablets), these have been our go-to for teething discomfort

  • Earthley Teeth Tamer Oil (ages 4+ months) - easy to use dropper with ingredients that support oral wellness and promote calmness

  • Wellements Baby Tooth Oil (ages 4+ months) - a safe product to rub on baby's sore gums

Along with all of the listed products above, we prioritize rest, hydration, and nourishing foods during any illness!

If you want to order enough from Earthley to get free shipping (or to take advantage of the $6 tincture sale they have every so often like I did), here are some other products I have used from them:

  • Pain Potion (ages 6+ years) - anti-inflammatory & antibacterial properties, relieves discomfort & headaches

  • Ease the Ache (ages 8+ years) - I haven't had to take ibuprofen during my periods anymore since getting this! Eases cramps, mood swings, and supports postpartum healing (I'm looking forward to trying it for postpartum after my next baby is born!).

  • Magnesium Lotion (ages 0+ years) - I have mentioned this in a previous blog post to help with sleep

  • Mineral Deodorant Plus (ages 8+ years) - a natural deodorant that actually works

I hope this is helpful as you take care of your family - let me know if there is anything you would add to this list!
